Eero Aarnio was born in 1932 in Finland and gained reputation for his chair designs of the 1960's, faithful reproductions of two of these chairs are offered for sale on this site.

Following completion of his studies at the Institute of Industrial Arts in 1962 he began his own business.

Although he worked with both traditional and contemporary materials it is his new work with plastics and fibreglass that really captured the zeitgeist of the time and many science-fiction films made in the sixties feature his designs.

If you are a furniture and science fiction geek (as Mark one of our founding members is!) you can probably list several off the top of your head!

Still alive and designing today Aarnio has reverted back to the use of more traditional materials but I am faithfully informed that he still keeps one of his original Ball Chairs in his study, good to see it retains a place in his heart and home as it does in ours.
