The Bubble Chair by Eero Aarnio
Chair £752 [CH3002A]
Once Eero Aarnio had designed the Ball Chair he saw the opportunities available to him to reduce the design even further and began to draw up some ideas for a chair that, despite sharing much common ground with the form of the Ball Chair was less a 'room within a room' and more an effortless, virtually invisible addition to a space.
The Ball chair creates a secluded area and in doing so blocks out any light source that is not directly facing into it whereas the bubble Chair lets light in, wherever the source.
Aarnio investigated the production techniques available to him in 1968 and realized that his idea bore some resemblances with the domed sky lights that were starting to appear across cities in his native country of Finland.
He approached manufacturers and discovered that it was indeed feasible to heat and blow acrylic into a large enough size to accommodate his idea, and there the idea for the 'Bubble Chair' was born.
As Aarnio himself noted "there is no nice way to design a transparent pedestal" lucky for him then that this design was perfectly suited to being suspended from above.
Despite visually connecting the user with the external space (where the Ball Chair divides) the Bubble Chair shares the same acoustic properties, absorbing and reducing external sound, this quality means that it creates a zone of tranquility even in a noisy area.
Of course every sale excites and delights us but the team at Iconic Interiors cannot wait until this piece is utilized by a commercial customer as we believe it is ideal for use in a library or creative break out area in an office space.
