The Bibendum Chair by Eileen Gray
Chair £472 [CH3002A]
The Bibendum chair was designed by Eileen Gray in the early 1900s but was largely forgotten until an original surfaced in a 1972 auction prompting a new production of this design classic.
It is an opulent interpretation of the modernist aesthetic and firmly holds its own in the archives of great furniture design alongside the work of van der Rohe and Corbusier who shunned Gray's artistic endeavours when alive.
The name Bibendum was penned by Gray herself who noted that the chair had more than a little in common with the character that Michelin used to advertise their tyres.
This item is beautifully manufactured and only gets better with age, we know as one of the founding members of Iconic Interiors has a matching pair in their home office.

Confusion Buster: As with all pieces featured on this site the Bibendum chair is manufactured using full grain leather and not over printed top grain leather that is far cheaper and looks it.
The stainless steel frame of both pieces is high quality steel that will retain its high shine finish.
