The Ball Chair by Eero Aarnio
Chair £569 [CH3002A]
Designed in 1968 The Ball Chair quickly established itself as a great example of modern cutting edge design, by utilising one of the most simple geometric shape - the sphere - the designer Eero Aarnio managed to create a completely unconventional piece of furniture.
Originally the idea for the design came to Aarnio for his own use, he had moved to a new home with his young family and wished for somewhere peaceful to work that gave him privacy and quiet but did not put him behind a closed door. Thus the concept of a room within a room was born. Fully rotational on its smooth ball-bearing axis it can be turned towards or away from the activity in the larger room as the user desired.
The Vitra Design Museum states the following about Aarnios design: "It is something between a piece of furniture and a piece of architecture embodying both the mobile and the established, the fixed". We at Iconic Interiors say that it is just plain undiluted fun!
